‘Multidisciplinary propagandist’ presenteert “A striking synthesis of Middle Eastern sounds, hip-hop, club music and experimental sound design.” (The Wire)

De in Brooklyn residerende DJ Haram (VS) - echte naam Zubeyda Muzeyyen - omschrijft zichzelf als “a multidisciplinary propagandist”. Ze heeft lak aan formats en noemt zichzelf daarom bewust een “open-format DJ”. DJ Haram: “I’m like, no – we’re doing other art over here. We’re doing multidisciplinary propaganda!”

DJ Haram is tevens ½ van 700 Bliss, haar duo met Moor Mother, en werd door The Quietus omschreven als “Abrasive, politically charged noise-rap meets fractured club sensibilities”.

Recent verscheen haar debuut Beside Myself op Kode9’s hyperdublabel dat ze zelf als antwoord ziet op “the present global hellscape”. Hierop verwelkomt ze een resem muzikale geestesgenoten, zoals Armand Hammer (Billy Woods x E L U C I D), trompettist Aquilles Navarro (Irreversible Entanglements), DJ El Kontessa (vorig jaar nog present op BRDCST) en de Palestijnse producer/rapper Dakn.

Het album belandde in de top vijf van de invloedrijke lijst Releases of the Year 2025 in The Wire, alsook in de top twintig van Best Electronic Albums 2025 van Pitchfork, dat schreef: “Her fusions are even more radical than on previous releases, smashing together club beats, Egyptian darbuka and blasts of noise.”
