Klaar voor de clash der dub-titanen? x “It feels like a soundclash in the underworld.” (Pitchfork)
In de Boomkat charts van 2025 vroegen ze aan de in Brussel residerende Kevin Martin a.k.a. The Bug (VK/BE) naar zijn favoriete platen van 2025. Goodness van feeo en The Film van SUMAC & Moor Mother zetelden in zijn top 10. Daar beiden present zijn tijdens BRDCST, mocht The Bug van ons gerust mee op de affiche prijken tussen zijn coups de cœur. Toeval of niet: met Implosion maakte The Bug vs Ghost Dubs (DE) een van de beste platen van het voorbije jaar.
Pitchfork vatte recent de geest van Martins muziek perfect samen: “Across three decades, the physical force of his music has expanded and contracted, but two things remain constant: the pulse of dub and the rumble of the bass.” Over zijn vorige album, Machine (2024) zei Martin zelf: “The goal was to make a new form of dub music that I wasn’t hearing. I wanted to make dub music that maybe some people definitely wouldn’t like.”
Dat motief geldt misschien ook wel voor Implosion, het album dat hij maakte met Ghost Dubs a.k.a. de in Stuttgart residerende dubmeister Michael Fiedler die ons in 2024 verraste met zijn debuut Damaged. Geen toeval: het album verscheen op Pressure - het label van Kevin Martin - en het artwork werd verzorgd door The Pathological Puppy a.k.a. … Kevin Martin!
