Park Jiha

Ambient meets neo-classical x ‘The Korean composer’s fourth album calls to mind Björk and Philip Glass.’ (The Guardian)

South Korean composer and multi-instrumentalist Park Jiha (KR) had been on our BRDCST wish list for quite a while. Her fourth album, All Living Things, released in 2025, further whetted our musical appetite. It was re-released on tak:til, a sub-label of Glitterbeat that BRDCST has long embraced, featuring artists such as Širom (BRDCST 2018) and Brìghde Chaimbeul (BRDCST 2024).
The Guardian gave her a four-star review, writing: ‘The Korean composer’s fourth album calls to mind Björk and Philip Glass. Park’s fertile themes here recall those of Björk’s Biophilia, but with a big nod to the systems music of the American minimalists.’

Jiha plays traditional Korean instruments such as the piri (a bamboo oboe), the yanggeum (a type of metallophone), and the saenghwang (a mouth organ), but gives them a modern twist, quite literally breathing new life into old instruments.

The result is utterly captivating and meditative. The Guardian concludes: ‘Terms like post-classical, ambient or even cinematic are useful, entry-level tags, but they only scratch the surface of this album’s shimmering, contemplative soundworlds.’
