Supergroupe post-metal américano-canadien “… in the spirit of Keiji Haino, Peter Brötzmann and Milford Graves, unleashed on Sunn O))) amps” (The Quietus)

SUMAC (US/CA) est un supergroupe post-metal composé d’anciens membres d’ISIS, Russian Circles et Old Man Gloom. Paste Magazine résume parfaitement leur esprit : “For SUMAC, metal is a destructible aesthetic temple whose parts can be re-sculpted to take any form, so long as the end result is the right blend of disorienting, harsh, and beautiful.”  

SUMAC ouvre délibérément la porte du metal à la noise et à l’improvisation. Sa collaboration avec le pionnier avant-gardiste japonais Keiji Haino, ainsi que ses EP Before you appear (2016) et The Keeper’s Tongue (2024), respectivement remixés par Kevin Drumm, Samuel Kerridge et Moor Mother, en sont de beaux exemples. D’autant plus que le remix est assez mal vu dans ce milieu. 

Place au dernier album, The Film, qui poursuit durablement la collaboration avec Moor Mother (voir aussi : 700 Bliss, Irreversible Entanglements). Oor Magazine à ce sujet : “Verslavend en louterend.” Echoes and Dust : “The Film is an uncompromising, unrelenting, uncommercial, and unstoppable record.” 

Attention : Moor Mother ne sera (hélas) pas présente ce soir-là.
