World premiere: BRDCST presents Einstürzende Neubauten for the first time in its new line-up

A year ago, a shockwave went through Neubauten-land and all its inhabitants: the enigmatic bassist Alexander Hacke had major news to share: “I, Alexander Hacke would like to announce that I have left Einstürzende Neubauten. It is not a decision I have taken lightly. This band has been my family for more than four decades.” Exactly one year later — Annuntio vobis gaudium magnum: Habemus Papam! — white smoke has appeared, and we finally know who will replace Alexander Hacke: Josefine Lukschy.

Neubauten themselves had this to say: “We are delighted to welcome Josefine Lukschy @jockeyunselfish as our new bass player. She is currently rehearsing with the rest of the band, because we have a number of festival dates coming up, starting in less than two weeks in Brussels.” So yes: BRDCST is about to host nothing less than the world premiere of Neubauten’s brand-new line-up.

Josefine Lukschy has been and continues to be active in a whole range of bands, including the Berlin europunk band Bechamel, the one-off (sound art) collective Die Milchstrasse Flockt, the power trio Dog Dimension, and her most recent noise rock band Crashpad. With the latter, she has just released her debut album Happy Place.

For anyone — and really, who wouldn’t? — wanting to hear Lukschy already tackle the bass parts of the Neubauten classic Die Befindlichkeit des Landes (from one of our favourite Neubauten albums, Silence Is Sexy), be sure to check out this clip: Einstürzende Neubauten - Bassist Reveal - YouTube.
