Icelandic musician cited by Björk as a source of inspiration & described by The Line of Best Fit as ‘a rare phenomenon’
JFDR (curated by Ichiko Aoba)
JFDR (IS) is the alter ego of Icelandic musician and soundtrack composer Jófríður Ákadóttir. One of her most famous fans is fellow-countrywoman Björk, who cited her in The Guardian – along with other greats like Klein and RuPaul – as one of her inspirations. Björk: ‘I got obsessed with her band Samaris a few years ago, and then it was amazing to see her do her own stuff. She’s surrounded herself with a really authentic community of friends.’
We welcomed JFDR at AB back in 2022 with a great project featuring British singer/composer Kieran Brunt and Belgian cellist/composer Benjamin Glorieux, and she’s collaborated with high-flyers such as Ólafur Arnalds and Damien Rice.
We regard her latest accomplishment – the 2025 EP From Figure 8 – as one of her most cathartic releases ever. And (because we believe that it’s all in the details) her EP also featured Brooklyn musician Aaron Roche, who completely captivated us in 2018 in the old AB Salon during BRDCST.
